Notifications

Alerts, push settings, and the places notification taps can take you.

What it is

Notifications are the platform alerts that ask for your attention: reminders, mentions, share activity, game invites and automation events. They appear in the app shell and can also use push on this device if you enable it.

Where to find it

Unread notifications appear from the handle area in the main app shell. Notification preferences live in Settings, under Notifications. Some surfaces also show their own notification rows, such as Exchange and game invites.

How to use it

Tap a notification to go to the relevant place when it has an action payload. Swipe or dismiss items you have handled. In Settings, use the push-device card to enable or disable browser push, the master toggle to pause platform notifications, and the channel matrix to decide which priorities should use which channels.

Use cases

Opening a shared item when somebody sends it to you. Joining a game room from an invite. Seeing that a deed finished or that something needs human attention.

Gotchas

Push is per device and browser permission matters. Turning on notifications in Adhoc does not force the operating system or browser to allow them. Some notifications are informational only; if tapping one does not move you, read it as a status item rather than a broken deep link.
