Publishing to the Index
Publishing to the Index
Making something available to everyone, and what that commits you to.
What it is
Publishing puts something you built into the public Index, where anyone can find it, preview it and install a copy. It is the public distribution path, not a private share with a long URL.
Where to find it
Long-press the item and choose Share to Index.
How to use it
Choose what you are publishing and confirm. Published items appear in the Index for everyone; each install creates a copy owned by the person installing it. Apps are captured into an installable bundle so the copy has the app shell and its publishable interior pieces. Media, games, models and other asset kinds ride the same asset.share_to_index substrate with their body snapshot and provenance.
Use cases
Sharing an app you built with everyone rather than one person. Contributing a deed or a view other people can use. Publishing a game, model or reusable visual asset so another workspace can install its own copy.
Gotchas
Publishing to the public catalogue requires a data-contribution tier of at least 2. That floor applies only to public publication — it is not a subscription requirement and it does not apply to a private share.
A public publication is public. Treat title, description and preview material the way you would treat posting on the open web.
Taking a listing down does not reach copies people already installed — the same rule as private sharing. Poly cannot publish for you; asset.share_to_index is a user-initiated action by design.
